What to expect from an Intimacy Coordinator
Intimacy coordinators get involved at various stages of the production schedule depending on the scale and source of the project; however, the process remains the same, and prep time is crucial.
What do Intimacy Coordinators do before the shoot?
Producers
Please hire an IC in advance as soon as possible. This allows time to identify the scope of work, confer with production and director, obtain all necessary contact information, and meet with actors prior to the shoot.
Directors
ICs should want to fully understand your vision and tone so if there are scenes where actor boundaries conflict with that vision, we are prepared to help facilitate that conversation and preserve the essence of your scene. We can also assist with choreography when needed.
Actors
ICs help establish boundaries and consent, communicate your needs to production if you desire, assist you in clarifying consent and boundaries in your nudity rider, help to enforce your nudity rider if necessary, and advocate for you during the filming of simulated sex, nudity, and other hyper-exposed scenes.
What do Intimacy
Coordinators do on set?
Once on set, intimacy coordinators are available to provide support and advocate for actors in scenes containing nudity, simulated sex, and other intimate interactions such as medical situations and crime scenes.
Core roles are:
- Advocate for the safety and comfort of Actors
- Liaise and create open communication between actors and production.
- Facilitate clear communication and consent between actors.
- Ensure adherence to proper protocols.
- Assist with choreography when requested.
